Wii Would Like to Play With You...

Manhunt 2

I could post pages of media about this game, from news stories, to press releases, to interviews all about the controversy behind this game. It gets an AO rating, then banned, now it's an M but basically neutered. So is this game any fun? I picked it up last night for the Wii and have enjoyed the atmosphere and storyline thus far. The gameplay is pretty repetitive, sneak, hide in shadows, kill. My biggest issue is that when you're furiously moving the wii-remote to mimic the killings you can't see whats happening on screen. The filters are so bad it's like comitting a crime while having a stroke. It kinda adds to the whole mentally fucked up story bits but c'mon, the first game was brutal and now this one is....blurry. So this is what happens when the government interferes with art (yes, games are art, deal with it) How do you feel about censorship? Is there a line that shouldn't be crossed?

The Mothman

I am not an easily scared person, I can sit through horror movies without jumping, I believe in ghosts and aliens and all that stuff and that doesn't bother me. My achilles heel however is one member of the cryptozoological family: The Mothman. Ever since I saw the Mothman Prophecies have I been scared shitless of this creature. I'm not sure why either, maybe because I researched the legend and read and seen the reports of his alleged existence and it just struck me as creepy as all fuck. If you don't know the legend, the basic story is that people witness this man-like creature with wings and glowing red eyes and afterwards something horrible happens, usually death of some sort. These sighting have gone on for decades and still occur today. Unlike Bigfoot or Nessie, the Mothman seems to have actual interactions with people... creeeeeepy!

What Scares You?

Urban Legends: The Clown

A couple with children were trying out a new babysitter. About an hour after they left for a night on the town, they realized they had forgotten to give her their cell phone number, so one of them called her.

After she wrote down the number, the babysitter asked if she could watch satellite TV in their bedroom. She had just put the children to bed and wanted to watch a particular show. (The parents didn't want their children watching too much garbage, so the living room TV did not have satellite channels.)

Well of course she could watch TV in their room, they replied. The babysitter had one other request: could she put a sheet or blanket over the clown statue that was in the bedroom? It kind of made her nervous.

Take the children and go to the neighbors, said whichever parent was talking to her. We'll call the police. We don't have a clown statue.

The police caught the clown as he was running through the neighborhood.

Silent Hill 5 Trailer

I've always loved the storylines in the Silent Hill universe, the games themselves tend to be really creepy but the controls are far too clunky for my liking. Still though, there is nothing better than hopping on gamefaqs and checking a plot analysis or two, might just be the writer in me. Psychological horror totally gets me off...in a nonsexual way

Why We Should Fear The Press

Ahh the complete idiocy of the mainstream press. What better way to scare people around Halloween than with a story about vampires....well vampire electronics. The Associated Press is reporting that apparently BRAND NEW research shows that electronics consume energy when they're in standby mode. OOOOoooooooohhhhhh, Scary!

This is perahaps the scariest bit of news we'll see all day, that journalism is so caught up in scare tactics that they find themselves so fucking behind the times on any bit of technology news. I bet tomorrow we'll hear more on how lighting only strikes people wearing iPods, ignoring the statistics that most people own an iPod so there is a greater chance that a person struck by lightning will have an iPod on them. Stupid ass media

So today we're going to be focusing on the darker side of things, internet crimes, Hollywood murders, certain extra violent/scary videogames. All to celebrate this magical day!

New Direction

So i spent the last couple of weeks trying to figure out the angle I wanted to go with in regards to this blog. It is really easy for a blog like this to get lost in the shuffle when I try to tackle tv, movies, games, technology and all that fun stuff. So I've decided that while I'm still going to cover these topics I am going to be running a common thread beneath them: The future, we are at a point in the world where sci-fi is just...sci and i want to explore that. So expect stories about legal issues, new technology, avant garde works. I'll be looking at new ways in which we immerse ourselves in popular culture.

Sound good?

PS3 Impressions Part 1

So I went to Best Buy with the intent to buy the 80gig model with Motor Storm included. Luckily though I actually listened to the sad dopey employee who thought I'd be his friend. He tried to trump my research mentioning the 60gig had the hardware backwards compatability while the 80gig was software. Having two PS2s at home I wasn't really biting...yet. Why the hell was he trying to sell me a 60gig model that was the same price as the 80gig which came with a freaking game? Then the portly gentleman mentioned that with the 60gig I would get a free controller or either Lair or Heavenly Sword for free. Since I hate racing games I was intrigued. My mind quickly did that rolodex flipping thing to the sections for videogame reviews. Lair was crapular while Heavenly Sword was...better...kinda... I was sold on Heavenly Sword cuz a pretty lady fighting shit beats racing. So I picked up HS, the 60gig, and component cables cuz I do have a nice 50inch 1080 HD TV and really wanted my new baby to look nice.

So the second I get home, what do I do? If you think it's "hook up the console and enjoy gaming bliss" you'd be wrong. The correct answer is: I got violently ill and was confined to my bathroom for a good long while. Eww

After I felt better I finally cracked open the box. Ahh the new console smell. I unwrapped each cord with care, snaking them around my tv to fit snugly into their new homes. I tried not to make eye contact with my Wii or 360 during this, they're a jealous duo and I knew they were pissed.

I touched the power switch, very futuristic no power button, just kinda touch sensitive area that lights up. The orchestra sound that PS3 makes upon startup sent chills down my spine.

First thing I wanted to do was set up my PSN account, which meant having to update my system.

45 minutes later....

My console was updated, and shit it took forever. Ok I jumped on the Playstation Store and selected a bunch of demos and videos to download, then I was ready to start Heavenly Sword

Get The Red Ring of Death Twice as Fast with HD-DVD!

Joystiq is reporting on a rumor that a new 360 Model will include an internal HD-DVD player. Why? They couldn't make the 360 function on its own, so let's add more stuff that'll make it overheat faster and melt our consoles back to the bronze age!

Just How Much Control Does Your ISP Have Over Your Access to Information?

Engadget has posted an interesting article about Comcast's revelation that they are blocking P2P file sharing by attacking the users. While this isn't fully stopping the transfers it is causing a cramp in the sides of thsoe that use the web as a file sharing space. This is a slipperly slope to be on, how long will it be before an ISP decided their users shouldn't look at porn, or violent images, or unpatriotic materials? Once you start blocking an activity, especially one which legal issues fall into a heavy gray area, you're inching closer and closer to a 1984 world. The internet is a cast uncharted landscape and placing restrictions upon it is in this blogger's opinion, a really bad idea.

Apparently David Copperfield is a Rapist

I was trying to think of a magic/sexual assault pun for the title but tvguide's title was fantastic:

What's Up Copperfield's Sleeve? A Rape Allegation

So according to the article, the FBI seized a bunch of Copperfield's stuff including a hard drive which all stems from a rape allegation recently brought on.

1. Who gets raped by a magician?

2. Can't he just make the evidence dissapear?

3. In jail he'll have more than a rabbit pulled out of his hat...and by hat I mean ass

Street Fighter IV Trailer from Youtube

Enjoy:

Episode Review: Grey's Anatomy

What I Liked:
Callie
The Chief’s storyline
The lady on hospice/not so much on hospice

What I Didn’t Like:
Izzie, Alex, George and their teenage shit
Derek basically telling Meredith he wants her but will cheat on her

Random Thought:
Did anyone else hope that Callie and Bailey would just kick everyone at Seattle Grace’s ass?

Overall:
I’ve noticed recently that when Meredith is with any character besides Derek, she is a likeable if not totally flawed character. Sure she’s majorly jacked up but she still makes you want to watch her. Then when she has scenes with Derek, such as in the elevator tonight she looks washed out and turns into a completely unwatchable character. Christina had some nice moments this episode when she was forced to take on the role of a teacher to Lexi even though by the end she was still calling her “Three”. The George/Izzie/Alex/Callie thing is quite possibly the worst bit of storytelling ever made. The only character who fares ok in this is Callie who actually acts like an adult instead of the teenager everyone else seems to be. When she called Izzie a “traitorous bitch” I pretty much cheered. Alex is just a pathetic human being and George is basically unwatchable. Yet still we all watch and enjoy.

Episode Review: Ugly Betty

What I Liked:
Wanda!
Alexis pitching Anna Nicole Smith as a cover model
Amanda showing human emotion
Betty’s Ear
Show hits Marc, Marc hits the floor
Alexis being a crappy girl

What I Didn’t Like:
Justin being rebellious
The James VanDerBeek ad pulling out thing made no freaking sense

Random Thought:
When will we see “Ugly Marc”?

Overall:
I didn’t really like this episode. They seemed to be treading water even though there were a few revelations, namely Henry being a baby daddy and Wilhelmina being uber evil…and kinda nice. Still though I found myself looking at the clock more than once hoping the show would come to an end. Justin being a rebel is more sad than funny. I’m hoping next week will pick up again, I won’t give up hope. Every show is entitled to some ho hum episodes.

New on My iPod: Caleb Kane

Remember Aladdin, remember how he could sing. Well the guy who did the singing voice of Aladdin is Brad Kane, who is known these days as Caleb Kane. I discovered his music a few months back and finally got around to downloading his EP off of iTunes. I listened to it on the train this morning and got hooked. He's got a more mature voice now and I love the acoustic-ey coffee house sound. So I'm now sharing him with ya'll check out the music video below, check him out on iTunes or at his website calebkane.com

Reefer Madness

Do you want to see 2 very different sides of Kristen Bell? I suggest you run, nay, drive to your local video/dvd rental/buying place/crack den and get your hands on Reefer Madness. Not the 1930’s propaganda piece that was unintentionally hilarious, but rather the Showtime movie musical based on the propaganda piece that is intentionally hilarious.

Starring Christian Campbell (Neve’s Brother) and Kristen Bell as Romeo and Juliet-esque lovers who learn firsthand the dangers of smoking reefer (hint: It leads to a ton of bloodshed!) All this is happening as a musical with amazing performances especially by SNL Alum Ana Gasteyer as the Madam of a reefer den and her boyfriend played by Steven Weber.

Perhaps the best scene in the film occurs when Mary Lane (Bell’s Character) gets her first taste of mary jane and goes bat shit crazy. Oh what the hell, check it out:

To Download or Not to Download...

I download music on iTunes
I download TV Shows on iTunes
I download classic games on the Wii

Also

I buy CD's from Best Buy
I buy seasons of TV on DVD from Target
I buy videogames from Gamestop

The question is:

Do I want games to go download only?

No

Call me old fashioned, call me behind the times, but I don't think I'm ready to say goodbye to discs and cases. If you read my last post you know the fond memories I have of buying games from a store. Even now I still enjoy being able to hop in my car and browse the game section of my local Best Buy. I don't need the convenience of an extended download off of my console's online service. Plus there is a huge difference between a 10 dollar music purchase and a 60 dollar game. I'd feel better having a hard copy of a game that I know won't vanish when my 360 is at the repair center. Furthermore when I download games on the Wii I tend to forget that they are there, having games and boxes allows me a visual cue when I'm looking to play a game, there is less chance of games getting lost in menus and hard drives when I can actually see them with my own eyes. Just my 2 cents...

Videogame Memories

When I was younger I had this scam type thing I would use on my parents. Well maybe scam is the wrong word, but anyways here's what would happen.

I would happily volunteer to accompany my mom or dad or both to Target or the mall or wherever. The goal was to be somewhere that sold videogames. So I'd sit in the car with a smile on my face, being the perfect angel. Throwing a fit was no way to ever get your way in my family so I always took the other route. We'd enter the store and I would set my plan into action:

"Can we look at videogames? I don't want any but I like to look"

How could they say no, I basically flat out told them I wasn't looking to buy any, I would sometimes add in there that I had all I wanted or I was still very much addicted to the last game bought for me. So of course they would say I could, this usually happened at the start of the shopping trip, big mistake on their part. We'd walk over to the games, I'd look at them with a slightly bored look on my face, making them think I would soon be ready to move on. But then I would say it:

"No way! I didn't know this game was out! I've been looking forward to this forever!"

This was only partly true, and only part of the time. I knew when games came out, I did subscribe to several magazines as a child and would read them cover to cover, several times. Sometimes though I hadn't even heard of the game, or had no intention of wanting it when I saw ads and articles for it in Nintendo Power or EGM. Yet I needed to have a videogame, and I knew I could get one if I stuck to my plan. My parents would of course open with a line about almost being Christmas (only worked if we were in October or later) or that they didn't have any money. Did I yell and scream then? No freakin way. Instead I would simply give them the wide eyed bambi look that only brown eyed children can fully pull off. My happiness would be shattered and for the rest of the shopping trip I would mention how the graphics in the game were awesome or how everyone at school would have the game before me (Always a lie, I had the best games, nobody ever came close). This would break them down bit by bit, this wasn't about buying their son a videogame, no, for my parents this became part of their duty. They knew that if I didn't end up with the game I was going to mope about it for days, and I'd do it to. So before we reached the checkout counter, my mom would fold and go back with me to the videogames to pick out my new toy (If I was just with my Dad my plan was simplified to "Mom said you could buy it for me cuz I raked leaves or something")

What was the first thing I did when I got into the car? Opened the game and read the instructions, yeah I didn't need to, game controls were hardwired into my brain at birth. The point was the car ride home would last forever but I knew that when I got there I would be able to pop in my new game and be satisfied...until the next trip to the store.

Episode Review: Pushing Daisies

What I Liked:
Olive running down the stairs
Raul Esparza guest starring
Plastic wrap kissing
The Asian confederate soldier and his descendent
Prolonged Winnie the Pooh reference
Exciting swordfight

What I Didn’t Like:
The swordfight was totally unrealistic
The characters of the Aunts are getting kinda stale
We don’t need a recap of his powers anymore

Random Thought:
Is Chuck immortal now?

Overall:
I am seriously in love with this show, a fairytale for this generation. I’m a little mad that it is more cute than funny but this episode proved that sometimes the quirkiness of human nature can put a smile on our faces. The twin grave robbing funeral home owners was a pretty good case and at least showed that there are consequences to what Ned does. Seriously though, Ned being an expert swordsman, what the hell was up with that? I am glad though they aren’t dragging out the secrets as Chuck found out this episode that Ned had to allow someone to die so she could live. We still have the whole father dying part to worry about, but I’m guessing that’ll be season finale material. Does the inclusion of Esparza in this episode open the door for more stage actors to find their way into the Pie Hole? I hope so!

Episode Review: Bionic Woman

What I Liked:
Sweet fight scenes!
Jamie and the Geek Guy after she breaks her toe
Sarah Corvis playing cards Starbuck style!
Bionic Shelf Life
Isaiah Washington being all evil-ish

What I Didn’t Like:
Super strength and jumping effects are obscenely cheeseball
This has all been done before (Alias, Buffy)

Random Thought:
How easy is it to break in and out of that secret facility? Cuz it seems they have really incompetent security

Overall:
A solid episode but I’m left to wonder if this show is too quickly becoming a stale Alias clone. New mission each week, shady characters, yeah it was done before Alias but this is still a bit too similar to ignore. Jamie’s sister appears and the story just stops, I know that we’re trying to see her have a home life, but if I were Jamie, I’d ditch the kid and go fully bionic. I wish we knew how long Isaiah was going to be around for; I figure he’s probably evil so I’m waiting for the reveal. Oh and Sarah Corvis is obviously not going to be on for much longer, so we’re going to need a new villain, like now! I complain a lot but I still fully enjoyed the show, at least it had action to break up the weaker moments.

Episode Review: Heroes

What I Liked:
Micah’s cousin and her powers
Claire’s boyfriend
Mrs. Petrelli
Next week on Heroes: KRISTEN BELL

What I Didn’t Like:
Sylar’s “evil face” whenever nobody was looking at him
Suresh and Matt playing house is kinda weird
The Wonder Twins
The photo of everyone’s parents, not a cool backstory

Random Thought:
If I had the TV power, would watching Heroes make me a hero, or just really good at being bored?

Overall:
If Matt’s Dad is the killer, then he lost a lot of weight, cuz the hooded guy a few episodes back was small, very small, Kristen Bell small! Keeping around old villains who are still evil is just lazy storytelling and really that’s what Heroes has been this season. Lazy. The only person who really used their powers was Claire’s boyfriend who should probably just get his own show where he flies around and doesn’t bitch about it like Nathan did. We did learn the wonder twins will trust only skeezy looking people and that Micah has a pretty cool family, aside from his boy cousin. Still it seems even the show is biding time til Kristen Bell is on. One week away!

NiGHTS Gets Release Date

While Smash Bros. won't be in our grubby paws by Christmas we can take some small amount of comfort in the latest release date news from 1up.com The site is reporting that NiGHTS on the Wii is scheduled for release on December 18th, just in time for the holiday. While I never owned a Saturn I remember spending time in Target while my mom was shopping playing the original game on the kiosk, enthralled and confused by the 3D world that wouldn't be respected until Mario took 3D mainstream. I've heard some iffy buzz on this game but I'm looking forward to it. At the very least it's a non-minigame release on the Wii and at the very most, it'll be a fun trip down memory lane that gamers will be happy to make.

Are You a Homophobic Puppy Hater?

Ellen wasn't her usual funny self recently as she made a tearful plea to a pet adoption agency to return a dog that was taken away from a family. Apparently Ellen had adopted the pet and could not care for it, so gave it to a loving family and even kept tabs to make sure everything was alright. However Degeneres had signed a contract stating that if she did not want to keep teh dog it had to be taken back to the shelter. As such the dog was taken away from two girls whom had bonded with their new friend. I'm not an advocate for celebrities getting special rights, but in this case they should. Ellen did a good deed, she didn't clear all the channels but her heart was in the right place, this wasn't a publicity stunt, no it was Ellen being the saint she always is. There is no sarcasm in my words. Ellen does nothing but good in her life and it's time for karma to repay her. Give the dog back to the family. What lesson is the adoption agency trying to teach?

Episode Review: The Big Bang Theory

What I Liked:
Sheldon and Penny at the grocery store
"Touching costs extra"
glow in the dark tampons
Sheldon taking note of Penny's cycle
The egg experiemnt
magic animals
Laurie Metcalf half the time

What I Didn't Like:
Laurie Metcalf he other half of the time
.... that's about it

Random Thought:
How far up is that tampon that it needs to glow in the dark?

Overall:
I sat and watched this with my brothers and their friend and I've gotta say, sometimes the humor doesn't cross over to non-geeky crowds. Sheldon and Penny need more scenes together, i was sad they didn't spend more time bugging each other. Laurie Metcalf as Sheldon's mom was inspired but every so often the jokes fell a bit flat, still her devout christianity provided plenty of laughs. Overall it was good to see Sheldon and Penny interact alone, and I hope to see way more of it in the future.

Hey Facebook, Frack You!

First the clone wars, now the anti-clone wars?

Apparently now that facebook has become a cash cow for its developers, some people are a little pissed. Hatebook and Enemybook are two new sites in the growing trend of trying to find the opposite of social networking. Now you can post about people you hate, or things you hate, or what pisses you off. It is social networking for the unabomber set of society. You know what I think?

These people are fucking retarded.

Remember those kids in highschool who dressed differently from everyone else, blakc eyeliner, weird hair colors, combat boots. You know the kids, they were called Goth or Punk or Squids (in my school). That's what these new sites are, the kids who feel left out because they're a bit awkward and decide to make themselves so against the status quo that they end up all looking exactly the same and everyone ignores them and sticks to the popular kids. Facebook is a football playing cheerleader who is number 1 in its class and even helps out at a soup kitchen on weekends. Sure we may not like facebook, but we still hope facebook likes us, because that what the social world is, being popular and fitting in. It sucks but eventually we get used to it. So allow Hatebook and Enemybook to snicker at the back of the class, because they have an inside joke and want attention and frankly, the rest of us are just waiting til lunch time.

20th Century Fox Sucks Life Out of Buffy Musical

I remember buying the soundtrack before the show aired, I remember setting 3 VCR's to make sure it taped. I sung the song for weeks following the broadcast. I was giddy when Anya burst into song in season 7. I never got to go to the sing-a-long, and now I never will. E! Online is reporting that 20th Century Fox has put the kibosh on the theatrical showings of Once More with Feeling and generally they're just assholes. Apparently TV comes with different rules so Buffy won't be getting the Rocky Horror treatment anymore. So much for me making a kick ass Xander Pajama Costume!

Episode Review: Desperate Housewives

The Game

What I Liked:
Susan at Bree’s “Doctor’s Office”
Andrew being the go to guy for narcotics
Dana Dalaney is awesomely bitchy
Carlos and Victor’s talk

What I Didn’t Like:
Lynette being high was just embarrassing
Julie’s explanation of why she could pick locks could have been way funnier
Edie is really just annoying at this point

Random Thought:
Susan pregnant is going to look weird as hell on Terri Hatcher’s skeleton body!

Overall:
The Charades part of the episode sucked, but the rest was really enjoyable. Felicity Huffman should be bitching out the writers on a weekly basis for making her look like a fool. Dana Dalaney was originally up for the role of Bree so when you see her and Marcia Cross interact it adds so much to their relationship. Nathan Fillion gets his own little secret, which is probably worse than that he cheated. I about died when Susan says that the gyno took pictures of her private parts with his camera phone! This season is off to a really good start so as long as they keep up the humor we’ll be good!

Is the PS3 the New Gamecube?

Remember the Gamecube, the purple thing everyone referred to as a lunchbox (I had a Zelda Lunchbox when I was little)? See the Gamecube was sort of a hit, and sort of a failure, it really depended on what Nintendo-made game was released that month. When you weren’t playing Zelda or Mario or Metroid you usually weren’t playing your Gamecube. The PS2 during the same period was filled with a wide range of games ranging from triple A to… pretty much utter shit. At least it was unique shit, the Gamecube had a few top tier titles and then ports of other games, and usually not very good games. Yet there was always a reason to power up the slim black system.

Fast forward 8 years into the future and it looks as if the PS3 is taking a page out of the Nintendo book, one or two great franchise games and then crap, not even a lot of crap, a slow trickle with no end in sight. What exclusive triple A titles do we have to look forward to over the next few months on the PS3? A new Ratchet game is guaranteed gold, but Naught Dog’s Uncharted may go the way of Lair. So what the PS3 has this year is one insanely good game from Insomniac, a developer that might as well be first party and a possible hit from Naughty Dog. Everything else seems to be a port from the 360, sometimes long after the 360 release has come out. With the promise of Metal Gear and Final Fantasy we can look forward to returning IP’s, but what about a successful new property?

Gamecube proved you can’t rely on your tested franchises forever and even Wii is falling into the same trap. Will American games have to look towards the 360 for new IP’s? If so, then what about our Japanese brothers? Will they provide the titles the PS3 is in desperate need of? This problem is perhaps a symptom of a bigger issue, but what will the solution be?

Episode Review: Smallville

Fierce

What I Liked:
Kara’s idea of fitting in
Jimmy’s views of meteor freaks, told to his meteor freak girlfriend Chloe
Lana’s return
Kara and Lex’s conversation at the end

What I Didn’t Like:
Lois the super reporter is overshadowing Chloe…right
Clark has no sense of humor, he ruined the watermelon scene
Season 7 and we’re still doing Freak of the Week

Random Thought:
Remember when Supergirl and Luthor dated during the death of Superman storyline, think they may hook up here?

Overall:
Truth is I’m not a Smallville fan and I’m not a Superman fan. I am a Supergirl fan and that’s why I started watching this season. The episodes have been pretty decent thus far, though always in the back of my mind I keep thinking: How come Superman met everyone ever in his life while he was still in Smallville? Kara is always a highlight and the fish outta water bit is played out mostly everywhere but she has that look that makes it watchable. That look of course being skimpy outfits. Oh and the preview for this week said Lana was all messed up, and she’s not, she’s still the bad actress she’s always been, which blends well with Tom Welling’s lack of talent. Ouch! At least Dean Cain is on next week, that should be…interesting

History Repeating

What I Liked:
The return of Scottie!
Julia actually has a storyline
Robert’s Ex-Wife warning Kitty about him
Saul’s Hatred of Golf
The look in Nora’s eyes when she is watching Justin at the end of the episode

What I Didn’t Like:
Rebecca’s friend who is probably gonna sleep with Tommy
We get it; Justin didn’t want to take the drugs
Where the hell was Sarah?

Random Thought:
The cop’s testimony mentioned Scottie appeared to be living out of his car… that’s all I’m gonna say

Overall:
Even ignoring the return of Scottie this was a really great episode. Julia cries an awful lot but I’m at least happy she gets screen time, even if it means Sarah is absent from the majority of the ep. Rebecca is growing on me each week and she is totally a Walker, always screwing up when she has the best of intentions. The Justin thing got old fast, but after Rebecca mentions what happened to her friends, I think the storyline is really going to go to an interesting place. I’m sorta glad Kevin wants to just be friends with Scottie but we all know that’ll eventually progress cuz Kevin is a bit of a man-whore. Overall though, awesome episode!

Originality Can't Skip Across the Pond

Check out the trailer for The Eye Starring the almost illegally hot Jessica Alba here!
Sure seems like a creepy movie. And it was, when I saw it a few years ago. That's right, once again Hollywood is bringing over another Japanese horror film and once again we're forced to sit through an American rape of a very culturally embedded genre film. Yeah the Grudge was pretty creepy, then Grudge 2 came out which was the same freaking movie as the first Ju-On movie, which was the basis for the first Grudge. Confused? You should be. With Pulse, Dark Water, The Ring, and next years "One Missed Call" America is chock full of Japanese remakes and why? Honestly our culture doesn't allow us to fully appreciate these films, but hey paint a kid white and have him make weird noises and you have a bonafide it. It pisses me off. But there is a trend emerging now that I'm sickened by:

UK Shows Being Remade as American Shows

The biggest offender: Viva Luaghlin, which CBS last night touted as the most original show of the season. Yeah it was original when it was called Blackpool (Viva Blackpool on BBC America) and starred David Tennant in the role Eric Winter is now playing. How is that original CBS? And the US version of Coupling.... that was a freaking disaster. Yes Coupling was a rip off of friends, but at least they went in another direction and really upped the naughty bits. America then wattered it down.

Rent the UK version of the Office then watch the American Version. I gurantee you'll be sticking with Ricky Gervais version.

We still have Footballer's Wives and Life on Mars on the midseason slate so there is no end in sight!

My advice:

Rent the British versions, they're amost always superior to the ones from the states and pray to the gods that America never tries to do their own version of Doctor Who!

Episode Review: Grey's Anatomy

Let the Truth Sting

What I Liked:
Christina’s fake sadness
Callie and Bailey deciding to team up
Really Old Guy
Meredith showing signs of human emotion towards her sister

What I Didn’t Like:
Alex being a huge dick about George being a “Repeater”
“Gizzie” still pisses me off
Old Intern Guy was just useless
Trying to make Mark seem old

Random Thought:
Does George own any clothing that isn’t the color of vomit?

Overall:
So now that Isaiah Washington is gone, the producers have decided to make TR Knight the least likeable actor on the show? It isn’t his fault he’s gay, so quit making him all depressed about women. I loved the interaction between Meredith and her sister, Ellen Pompeo shines when she isn’t with Patrick Dempsey so let’s keep her talking to other actors. I have a huge crush on Callie so when George told her he slept with Izzie my heart sank. Way to be a dick George (see 2 sentences ago). Alex really shouldn’t be on the show anymore, he is only around to fill time so maybe they should dump him off a Ferry. Oh and Christina conning Meredith out of a Surgery, priceless.

Big Bang Gets Ultimate Geek Approval

TV Guide is reporting today Robyn Asimov, daughter of Isaac Asimov is a huge fan of the hit CBS comedy.

"Asimov referenced this week's episode, saying that "discussing my father’s Three Laws of Robotics during the hysterical conversation among three of the cast members, theorizing if one was a robot — and would he want to be told — was priceless." (tvguide.com)

So now you fellow geeks out there have to believe me. I know of one other person who watches the show, aside from my siblings, who don't count. So perhaps you should put aside some time Monday nights at 8:30/7:30 Central and enjoy the depths of geekitude that are present. What more do you want me to say? I can bribe yu if you'd like. Ok Then, if you watch the show I won't make it my one man quest to get Heroes cancelled. See, I'm willing to be a giver here! Watch the frackin show!

Episode Review: Ugly Betty

Betty's Wait Problem

What I Liked:
“I could pee on the red carpet?”
New love interest Geo
Justin’s attempts to play basketball
Alexis and Wilhelmina’s photo album

What I Didn’t Like:
Daniel’s excuse for being in a wheelchair
Christina’s short screen time
I don’t give a rat’s ass what Betty’s dad’s storyline!

Random Thought:
Who are they going to cast as Amanda’s real father?

Overall:
I love this show, anytime Marc and Amanda are onscreen the “awesome level” is jacked up to 12 plus when either of them show a little more dimension, the contrast with their bitchiness drives the emotion home. For being ugly, Betty sure gets a lot of play, but see it’s what is on the inside that counts, unless you look like Rebecca Romijn, and then you pretty much have a free ticket to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Judith Light better not be going anywhere, let’s have her team up with Betty again! Oh and watching Justin’s basketball skills brought back painful childhood memories…

They're Still Making Harry Potter Movies!

Lochaber News is reporting on the filming of the 6th Harry Potter Movie. This info is strictly for you readers because after the 7th book failed to reveal Barty Crouch Junior as the savior of both the Muggle and Wizard races I totally checked out of the Potter Universe. Anyways here is the link, get the tissue or whatever you need:

Facebook Vs Myspace: Stalker Edition

A great woman once said “Friendship is more lasting than a relationship and more legal than stalking” And as we begin to enter the holiday season it is best to remember the ones who have removed us from their lives and find ways to claw our way back in. We’ve got two options:

Facebook & Myspace

Each has their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to creatively following the daily lives of our lost loves. Which one though is better? I’ve known of people, who are most certainly not me, who have had success with each. It all comes down to options. Facebook’s main draw is the ability to track your “friend” using their feed. This is most effective though if they actually are your friend. Plus if you’re not in their same network, good luck getting any information. Myspace on the other hand will generally allow you access to everyone’s profile. Plus, and this one’s a biggie, when you send someone on Myspace a message, you know if they’ve read it or not! They can’t ignore you forever if you keep sending messages. Plus it must mean they still care for you, otherwise they’d just delete it. Though this backfires when you send them a friend request and they decline. That is a pain like no other.
I couldn’t possibly come to a definitive conclusion. Perhaps you can. Send me your stories and I’ll follow up, because sometimes we all go to the dark side of technology.

Why We Love Kristen Bell Summed Up in a Video

Smash Bros. DELAYED

Anxious to spend Christmas morning beating the snot out of your favorite Nintendo characters? Itching to have Solid Snake open a cardboard box of whoop-ass on Sonic (the little bitch deserves it!)? Well To frackin' bad! Nintendo has delayed the Release of Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii from early December to February 10th of 2008. Cause for the delay? Nintendo isn't saying, but this is nothing new. Twilight Princess experienced such a long delay it eventually switched consoles. At least we still have Mario Galaxy to look forward to on Nintendo's little money maker. Not cool Nintendo, not cool.

Heroes Love Videogames

If this means less repeates of Code Monkeys, I'm a happy camper. TV Guide is reporting that cable channel G4 has obtained rights to air Heroes repeates on their station beginning later this month. G4 will aslo produce a live 30 minute show to air after the saturday night rebroadcast. One can only hope the show is hosted by Morgan Webb and NOT Kevin Pereira. G4 will also have exclusive rights to stream episodes from their website g4tv.com. You've gotta love it when G4 is given a bit of good fortune, those kids try really hard!
